Badhaka and Maraka Terminology
The traditional obstruction-house convention
Badhaka is a technical term used for a designated obstruction house in traditional astrology. The common classification depends on the mode of the ascendant sign. Maraka terminology commonly refers to the second and seventh houses in historical longevity discussion.
| Ascendant mode | Signs | Commonly designated badhaka house |
|---|---|---|
| Movable | Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn | 11 |
| Fixed | Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius | 9 |
| Common | Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces | 7 |
The classification and its scope
The table is a convention about a technical category. It does not mean that gains in the eleventh, higher learning in the ninth or partnership in the seventh become unfavourable in every chart or question. The house's other meanings remain part of the interpretation.
Historical longevity material
Some schools examine these categories with other houses in health or longevity discussions. Their presence does not establish a medical diagnosis, prognosis or date of death. Public informational content can explain the terminology without converting it into a personalised fatal prediction.
Related distinctions
The relevant mode is that of the actual ascendant sign. Sign numbers and house numbers should remain separate. A common ascendant designates the seventh by this convention; it does not by itself indicate a harmful marriage or prove any relationship outcome.
