The Nine Planets in KP Astrology
Traditional planetary descriptions
The nine grahas supply the standard planetary lords in KP. Their natural descriptions are background to the actual house and stellar relationships of a chart. A planet associated with a favourable theme in general can still signify a different outcome for a particular event.
| Graha | Familiar name | Traditional descriptive themes |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Surya | Authority, administration, visibility and leadership |
| Moon | Chandra | Receptivity, care, mind, domestic circumstances and movement |
| Mars | Mangal | Action, tools, engineering, effort and competition |
| Mercury | Budha | Communication, documents, calculation, commerce and exchange |
| Jupiter | Guru | Teaching, counsel, growth, law and belief |
| Venus | Shukra | Relationships, art, comforts, agreements and aesthetic interests |
| Saturn | Shani | Duration, responsibility, labour, structure and restraint |
| Rahu | North lunar node | Unfamiliar contexts, unconventional activity and representation |
| Ketu | South lunar node | Detachment, separation, specialised focus and representation |
Planetary descriptions and house results
The planet's star lord and house relationships remain central to a KP event interpretation. Venus is not a standalone guarantee of marital happiness, Saturn does not invariably delay every matter, and Rahu does not promise a large financial gain solely from a broad description.
Sun Moon and Jupiter in transit
The Sun moves through the zodiac in roughly a year, the Moon in roughly a month and Jupiter in roughly twelve years. Some timing approaches use these different scales when examining candidate periods. Their motion does not create a universal rule guaranteeing an exact day, month or year.
Nodes and ownership
Rahu and Ketu are lunar-node points rather than physical bodies. In the standard ownership table they do not own signs. Their representative relationships need to be traced explicitly through the adopted stellar, sign, conjunction and aspect rules.
