The Twelve Houses

Houses describe the subject of a question

The twelve houses supply the main vocabulary of KP event interpretation. Their associations cover personal circumstances, family, education, property, service, partnerships, profession, gains and expenditure. The role of a house depends on the event being considered.

House groupings

A question such as obtaining employment is more specific than the broad topic career. An offer, joining a role, receiving pay and changing an employer are different events. KP therefore combines a primary house with supporting houses rather than assuming one house explains every aspect.

Expenditure may be part of acquiring a property, while separation may be part of relocating successfully. A house interpreted as an obstacle in one question can participate in a desired event in another.

Derived houses

Derived-house interpretation temporarily treats another person's reference house as their first house. Counting is inclusive. The tenth from the seventh is the radical fourth, and the fifth from the seventh is the radical eleventh.

The calculation is ((reference house + relative house − 2) modulo 12) + 1. The arithmetic determines the reference position; the question determines whether that relationship is relevant.
