What Is KP Astrology
The origins of Krishnamurti Paddhati
Krishnamurti Paddhati, commonly abbreviated as KP, is an astrological approach developed by K. S. Krishnamurti. It brings together the familiar signs, planets and nakshatras of Indian astrology with precise house cusps and unequal stellar subdivisions called subs. Its distinctive emphasis is the relationship between a planet, its star lord, its sub-lord and the houses they signify.
KP is commonly used for natal interpretation, questions about specific events, horary inquiry and the selection of potential event periods. A natal chart uses birth data; a horary chart addresses a defined question. These applications share several concepts but do not use identical input and interpretation rules.
What makes KP distinctive
KP places particular emphasis on the sub-lord of a house cusp when assessing an event. House significators describe the relevant connections; Vimshottari periods and transits provide the traditional timing framework. Signs remain important as coordinates and descriptive context, but a sign description alone does not establish an event.
KP and traditional astrology
Both traditions use signs, grahas, houses and nakshatras. Parashari astrology includes a broad range of house systems, divisional charts, yogas and interpretive practices. KP's core stellar approach concentrates more directly on cuspal and house relationships. The differences concern the emphasis and procedure; they do not mean that all traditional astrology uses only whole-sign houses or that nakshatras have no other traditional role.
| Topic | Broad traditional practice | Core KP emphasis |
|---|---|---|
| Zodiac | Signs and their rulers | Signs, stars and unequal subs |
| Houses | Different bhava conventions are used | Placidus cusps in the usual KP setup |
| Event interpretation | Several combinations and interpretive systems | Cuspal sub-lords and house significators |
| Timing | Multiple dasha and transit traditions | Vimshottari periods interpreted through house links |
| Sign descriptions | Ruler, element, mode and other classifications | Supporting context within a stellar analysis |
Calculations and interpretation
The angular subdivisions and period durations are mathematical conventions whose calculations can be checked. The predictions made from them are astrological interpretations. Fine numerical resolution should remain distinguishable from demonstrated predictive reliability.
