Electional Astrology and Muhurta

Comparing potential start times

Electional astrology or muhurta compares possible times for beginning an activity. Signing an agreement, submitting an application, opening a business and conducting a ceremonial launch are different acts and can have different significant moments.

The KP framework

The relevant houses are selected for the defined event. Candidate charts are compared using the chosen cuspal, sub-lord, Moon or ruling-planet conditions. A method that also uses a natal chart needs to specify whose chart is involved and how it enters the comparison.

Practical context

Opening hours, participant availability, deadlines and legal requirements set the feasible interval. A proposed astrological preference is useful only in the context of an activity that can actually take place.

Additional criteria

Panchanga factors and horas can appear in a combined muhurta approach. Their inclusion should be identified as supplementary criteria. A comparison may involve tradeoffs between candidates; an unexplained numerical auspiciousness score does not convey the actual rules.
